2010 Audi R8

When the Audi R8 supercar first entered the auto market in 2007, the critical reaction was nothing short of outstanding. Almost universally praised for its innovative design and features, the R8 was a certified success and was headed for LeMans.

With the announcement of a new 2010 Audi R8 Supercar model that utilizes a V10 FSI engine however, Audi is set to make an even bigger splash. Already drawing comparison to the Lamborghini Gallardo, this new incarnation of the R8 supercar will definitely invite even closer comparison.

For while the new 2010 Audi R8 engine closely conforms to designs utilized in such models as the S6 and S8 sedans, it draws heavily from Lamborghini engine designs. Regardless of its roots however, the engine marks Audi's groundbreaking innovations in high-performance sports car technology. In fact, the use of the V10 engine practically makes it a shoe-in for supercar status.

The 2010 Audi R8 V10 offers 525hp and 391lb-ft of torque, and it can go from 0 to 62mph in an amazing 3.9 seconds. And with a top speed of up to 196mph, it seems more and more like a supercar after all. Those at LeMans would be proud.

One thing is for sure, and that is the R8 V10 does handle like a supercar. The 2010 Audi R8 supercar design has made it particularly suited to road as well as track environments, and with a speed of 124mph possible in 12 seconds, you can bet that there is plenty of power under the hood to spare.

Of course all this power comes at a cost, and that is in terms of fuel efficiency. This is not the car that you want to be driving around if you want to save on gas, although the 17mpg isn't as outlandish as one would expect. Nevertheless, with all the power harnessed to the R8 thanks to its V10 engine, you probably won't be getting that kind of mileage too often.

Fuel economy admittedly isn't the R8 V10's strong suit, and the V8 model, with 20 miles to the gallon, would seem like the more practical choice for daily driving. Nevertheless, Audi emphasizes the R8 V10's suitably for everyday use, citing the model's generous space under the front hood and behind the seats.

The 'sideblades' utilized in the earlier V8 model are still present on the V10, although they have undergone a redesign of sorts. They are a bit more "aggressive" for want of a better word, and even the side-sills and the exhaust grilles have been updated.

Owners of who are looking to trade up from a V8, in which all-LED headlights are offered as an option, will also be glad to know that the feature comes standard in the 2010 Audi R8 V10. Utilizing no less than 54 LEDs, these lights are almost equivalent to natural daylight.

Inside, the R8 V10 takes on a definite racing-inspired feel, with a number of leather interior options available. Options for the interior include carbon fiber and piano black, along with many other finishes. All these little touches add up to a sleek and exciting new model in the 2010 Audi R8 V10. Even if you're not driving in LeMans, driving your 2010 Audi R8 supercar to the event would be well worth it.
