Audi A4 TDI e

"Efficiency" is a buzzword that gets thrown about every now and again in the automotive industry, but few companies embody that ideal like Audi does. Always at the forefront of fuel efficiency and environment-friendliness, Audi is a company that is keenly aware of its role in today's growing environmental concerns. And with the recent announcement of the Audi A4 TDI concept e, it appears that the company plans to continue to uphold those ideals.

As seen in the recent Paris Auto Show, the new Audi adopts innovative fuel-saving technology that provides it with exceptional handling capabilities, while still retaining its superior fuel efficiency. The Audi A4 in fact can get up to 58.95 miles to the gallon, a very impressive figure that is the result of special fuel efficiency modules.

Audi's work in fuel efficiency is well apparent in the A4 TDI, and the company has in fact invested heavily in research into fuel efficiency and emissions reduction. Those efforts come into full bloom in the A4 TDI, which has a CO2 output of only 168.98 grams per mile on top of the already impressive mileage. These results point to the considerable potential of the company's modular efficiency system for future applications.

Now for something that is so fuel efficient, you might be thinking that the A4 TDI is an underpowered and uninspiring heap of a car. Nothing could be further from the truth, as the A4 exhibits a power and handling capability that is characteristic of typical gas-guzzling monsters. Gas-guzzling it may not be, but the A4 certainly has power to spare, thanks to the direct-injection TDI engine that gives it 120 hp of power and 213.89 lbs per foot of torque. The A4 TDI goes from 0 to 100 km in 10.7 seconds and has a top speed of 128 mph, so you can see that it has enough power for a wide variety of applications.

With all concerns with regard to the A4's power laid to rest, let's take a look at some of the other features that enhance the model's fuel efficiency. For all its power, it is apparent that this is one aspect wherein Audi has put in a great deal of effort, and features such as softer springs on the intake valves and an innovative thermal management system serve to enhance the line's fuel efficiency even further. These innovations also extend to the engine itself, where intelligent design technology is utilized in the fuel pump and the compressor of the air conditioning system.

Still more fuel-efficient features can be found in the A4 TDI's recuperation system, which collects excess power when braking and stopping, storing it in a battery for later use. The A4 also comes with a uniquely designed start-stop system that automatically switches off the engine when you come to a halt. Finally, Audi also saw fit to utilize Magnesium in the transmission in order to reduce its weight and thereby improve the vehicle's fuel efficiency even further.
