Audi A5
The Audi A5 Concept offers elegance, comfort and practicality
in one. Audi is already one of the most recognizable names in
the automotive industry, and the company could cease production
on new models and still exit the industry with its reputation
intact.

That being the case, the company shows
no sign of slowing down, and has in fact recently announced
its plans for 2010. And with the Audi A5 concept front and
center of the proceedings, it appears that the company is
set to break new ground once again.

The upcoming A5 promises to be something special, a fact that
is apparent in its sleek and elegant look alone. The model is
fitted with five doors, and with an extended rear end, it appears
to bring together the best elements of car design in one appealing
package.
While the Audi A5 draws noticeably from the coupe design of past
models, its size and features place it firmly in the station wagon
territory. And yet, it is also as comfortable and practical as
a sedan, with ample amounts of legroom inside. So which is it?
As it turns out, the A5 is a bit of everything
and then some.
This is not to say that the A5 is a jack-of-all-trades. In fact,
the new model is almost in a class all its own, with its unique
convergence of different features and capabilities redrawing the
lines by which automobiles are categorized.
The most notable feature of the new A5 is its sleek and sophisticated
look that smacks of sheer elegance. Nevertheless, it definitely
has a sporty feel to it, due in large part to its lower height
and the noticeably slimmed down lines of the four doors. The A5
is in fact 36mm lower than the previous A4 model, and features
such as the shortened front overhang, longer wheelbase and wider
track reinforce its status as a sports vehicle.
The A5 is available in three engine types, with all being high
performance and fuel-efficient direct injection designs that conform
closely to emissions standards set by E.U. regulatory boards.
In South Africa, buyers of the A5 Sportback will be given a choice
between two petrol engines and a TDI engine.
The petrol engine models of the A5 will come with either 2.0-litre
TFSI engines, with power and torque ratings of 155kW and 350Nm
respectively, or a 3.2-litre FSI V6, which is rated at 195kW for
power and 330Nm for torque.
As for the TDI model, it is rated at 176kW of maximum power and
500Nm of torque, making it a very formidable piece of machinery
indeed. In any case, all engine designs feature seven-speed S
tronic dual- clutch transmission systems. This allows the driver
to make quick gear changes, and it also enhances handling and
efficiency in both automatic and manual drive modes.
As with all Audi vehicles under the Quattro
system, all versions of the A5 are propelled by a permanent
all-wheel drive system. The line also features a vehicle dynamics
system that allows superior control over throttle response.
