Audi RS5
It's been more than three decades since the Audi Quattro first
rolled off the production line to rave reviews by the automotive
industry, and the company's renown for high quality vehicles has
remained untarnished over the years. That renown is going to be
put to the test with the impending release of the new Audi RS5
Coupe however, although by all indications it would seem that
Audi has nothing to worry about.

The Audi RS5 Coupe aims to carry on where
its predecessors have left off, with a winning combination
of power via the V8 engine, a blazing fast S-tronic twin-clutch
gear shift system, and an enhanced version of the company's
own all-wheel-drive system fitted with advanced differential
technology. Set to make its debut at the upcoming Geneva
Show, the Audi RS5 is expected to hit the European market
by October this year.

The new vehicle is developed by Audi's Quattro division, and
it is a direct descendant of the company's own RS2 Avant. The
Audi RS5 claims lineage to the original Quattro
system as mentioned previously, as well as to the innovative
R8, which featured the same high-powered 4.2-liter V8 engine.
With 8250-rpm performance and up to 450PS peak output power, this
is definitely not an engine for the faint-hearted. The Audi RS5
also offers a maximum of 317 lb-ft torque running at 4000 to 6000
rpm, and this propels the 3,800 pound vehicle to 62 mph in as
little as 4.6 seconds. The RS5 Coupe also tops out at a very respectable
155 mph.
The RS5 offers a lot more than sheer brute power of course, and
features such as a finely-tuned dual-branch intake/exhaust system
allows the engine to perform a lot more efficiently than similar
models in its class. The Audi RS5 also comes with no less than
four adjustable camshafts, and tumble flaps that allow for a much
better fuel mix in the intake manifold. This not only enhances
the RS5's performance, but also allows for an impressive 21.8
mpg.
A closer look at the engine reveals that the drivetrain has been
souped-up to reduce friction, while the on demand oil pump and
the uniquely designed energy-recovery system allows you to save
energy during coasting and braking maneuvers. But what really
makes the Audi RS5 stand out is the innovative seven-speed S-tronic
twin-clutch transmission system, which is a first for the RS line.
This along with the aforementioned high gearing feature provides
you with superior miles-per-gallon ratio.
The Audi RS5 also comes with two clutches, and two subsidiary
transmissions that are always in operation, although only a single
transmission at a time is activated by the car's engine. Each
of the gears is shifted alternately by the RS5's two clutches,
which performs its functions at impressive speed.
Also worth mentioning is the RS5's new differential design, which
works in conjunction with the vehicle's electronic torque vectoring.
This component controls all four wheels of the car. If an inside
wheel falls out of balance during the course of a turn, the system
compensates by reducing power to the appropriate wheel. This greatly
improves the safety and handling of the Audi RS5, and provides
more traction during maneuvers such as cornering.
